How AI would modernise Monaco GP after crash overshadows F1’s showpiece

Monaco and fast cars go hand in hand.

And the F1’s annual trip down to the Côte d’Azur – to its shimmering coastline and deep blue waters – is often one of most watched sporting events of the year.

However, when the circus arrives in the playground of millionaires, eyes are often focussed away from the track. The racing, in recent years, hasn’t been great, the Monaco circuit is narrow and almost outdated.

Daily Star Sport has asked AI how it would improve the racing so the on track product matches the glitz and glam of the paddock.

Sunday’s talking point was the crash in the opening lap that saw Sergio Perez’s Red Bull left in pieces as he collided with Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg. The crash coming on the hill leading from Sainte Devote, a notoriously tight section of the lap.

ChatGPT would change turn from Saint Devote as it’s currently a “narrow and tight right-hander where many incidents occur.” To modify this AI recommends: “Slightly widen the entry by extending the track into the sidewalk area.

“Maintaining pedestrian access with an overpass or underpass. Adjust the barriers to create a safer, more open turn.”

In fact a lot of the modifications AI recommends come down to space on Beau Rivage it notes that pavements could be reconfigured before utilising any available room from the bordering buildings and parks.

While Casino Square could benefit from slightly widen the track by moving barriers and landscaping features. And it’s the same advice for Mirabeau to the Hairpin and Portier.

The main criticism that surrounds Monaco is the lack of overtaking spots. Speaking ahead of the weekend’s action, Lewis Hamilton called for change: “They can definitely come out with a specific weekend, for this particular weekend.

“They should come up with some new formula for it rather than it just be the same. Do you guys not fall asleep on Sunday watching the race? The cars are getting bigger. You can’t really overtake without the risk of colliding.

“I wish we had more, bigger roads and the track could be wider, but I don’t think that’s ever going to be the case in Monaco because it’s just a small place. I would say maybe special tyres for this race, so you have more pit stops that create more variability.”

While Red Bull’s team principle Christian Horner joked they won the race last year on the Saturday.

It was the same story again on Sunday, Charles Leclerc took pole on the Saturday and held off his competition 24 hours later.

Monaco is a staple of the circuit, and it’s steeped in all sorts of history, but even these days the drivers are bored of its narrow streets.
