EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Petra Ecclestone’s chap rants over non-binary label

Oh dear! Sam Palmer, husband of Formula 1 heiress Petra Ecclestone, has taken to his soapbox again.

This time he broadcasts from his Los Angeles plunge pool, slamming people who identify as non-binary.

On his ‘Pet Hate’ Instagram series, the self-styled moral arbiter declares: ‘They should be locked up in the looney bins and thrown away [sic] the keys.’

Palmer, 39, who married Ecclestone, 35, two years ago, not only refuses to address people who are gender-neutral by their preferred pronoun, he describes them as ‘b******-talking plebs’.

The erstwhile used-car salesman adds: ‘There’s no way I’m playing along with it.’

Essex-born Palmer clearly has no qualms about his controversial views upsetting the non-binary community, which includes stars such as The Crown actress Emma Corrin and singers Sam Smith and Demi Lovato.

In a comment, he says: ‘It is a mental disorder, anyone that doesn’t want to be identified the Government should strip all right from. With no bank, passport, medical care etc, I bet they would snap out of it.’

The couple initially homeschooled their children to protect their minds from what Palmer called ‘woke stupidity’.

He added: ‘We have teachers. And sport coaches. I was against it initially, but I have to say I really love it. We get to spend more time as a family. We get to choose what’s being taught to our kids. And it will certainly not include woke stupidity like I’ve seen in some schools.’

Palmer’s engagement to Bernie Ecclestone’s youngest daughter came soon after her tumultuous divorce from gold bullion dealer James Stunt in 2017, with whom she has a 12-year-old daughter Lavinia and twin boys, James and Andrew, nine.

When her billionaire father heard the news of her plans to re-marry, he groaned: ‘I told her I don’t know what the hurry is…I don’t understand the reason.’

But for Palmer — who met Petra through her sister Tamara’s husband — it didn’t take him long to become accustomed to the heiress’s lifestyle. Palmer became so used to servants attending to his every whim that he launched a domestic staffing agency from their home in Los Angeles, boasting that it would be the first ‘run by someone who lives with staff’.

A Great British wedding for California girl Bella

A quintessential English wedding is in store for Hollywood actress Bella Thorne and British producer Mark Emms, 45, whom she got engaged to last year.

As I can reveal, the couple will be holding the forthcoming ceremony in the UK.

‘We are in the middle of wedding planning and have decided we’re doing it in the UK,’ she tells me at the amfAR Gala Cannes at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc.

‘It’s going to be magical.’

The former Disney star has fully embraced the British lifestyle and says: ‘I love a good English roast and delicious fish and chips.’

The actress, 26, also prefers the hustle and bustle of London compared to her isolated Hollywood home.

‘Where I live in LA, it’s very far from the city, so it’s nice to be [in London] because everyone’s having so much fun, meeting up with their friends and I love it. I feel like that’s not so much of an LA thing.’

Rishi Sunak’s surprise pledge to bring back National Service for teenagers in the event of a Tory General Election victory has divided opinion — but it has given Jeremy Clarkson food for thought.

‘Instead of National Service, which is obviously idiotic, how about kids working on farms?’ the 64-year-old proposes.

The Clarkson’s Farm star says his Diddly Squat Farm Shop ‘is always on the lookout for bright, chatty people’.

He adds: ‘We don’t care about qualifications. Just be fun.’

The Prime Minister’s proposed scheme would call upon 18-year-olds to take part in a full-time Armed Forces placement for 12 months or spend one weekend a month volunteering in their community for a year.

Mel Giedroyc is full of woe for the future of public libraries.

‘The idea that they are under threat actually makes me feel physically ill,’ she tells the Queen’s Reading Room podcast.

‘We should do everything we can to keep them open.’

The former Great British Bake Off host, 55, says she went to the library every day to work on her 2021 novel The Best Things, adding: ‘I had to be there… before it opened. I wanted to sit in the same chair.’

Secret to royal bond? School

Hot off the heels of the Cannes Film Festival, Italian It-girls Princesses Maria Carolina and Maria Chiara de Bourbon Two Sicilies were among the society faces at the Gala Dinner for the Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco.

The heiress daughters of the Duke and Duchess of Castro were born just 18 months apart in Rome and say they are often mistaken for twins.

‘What’s incredible is that when people do not know us, they think, ‘Oh, you’re like twins’,’ Carolina, 20, tells me.

Revealing that homeschooling is the secret to her close bond with her 19-year-old sister, she adds: ‘We have studied together. We have grown up together. We have a lot of common friends, but we also each have our own lives, our friends, our passions.’

Perhaps having family homes in Monte Carlo, Rome and Paris makes it easier to escape from each other.

Renowned primatologist Dame Jane Goodall reached the grand old age of 90 last month, but was left in no mood to celebrate.

‘Everybody wanted to [throw] galas and all sorts of events where I had to put smart clothes on.

I just don’t like these things,’ she admits. ‘I was in New York on my birthday itself and it was terrible.

It started with a talk show, then a long interview, then a long lunch, then another interview, then a gala fundraising thing… I had 14 cakes!’
