Unusual ice cream flavour has Brits asking if humanity ‘has gone too far’

An ice cream fan has got people wondering whether humanity has ‘gone too far’ with a weird new flavour.

Reddit users were sent into a frenzy after one social media fan spotted a cheddar-flavoured cone. Some even said mankind’s quest for the ultimate frozen treat had finally crossed the line.

A snap of the cheesy delight was posted to the CasualUK subreddit. The adventurous foodie who tried it wrote: “Couldn’t decide whether to eat it like ice cream or lick it like cheese”.

They then added the delicacy tasted “like mature cheddar, no hint of sweetness at all, very strange.”

Reddit users had an array of reactions, with one writing: “That’s a wrap on humanity I think.” Another agreed: “If you have to ask if man has gone too far, chances are it has.”

A third commented: “Man went too far making it, you went even further eating it,” while fourth joked: “The genie is out of the bottle. Things can never be the way they were before.”

However, it turns out cheese ice cream isn’t a new fad – in fact it was tickling taste buds in the UK centuries ago too. One food fan claimed: “Cheese flavoured ice cream has been a thing since the late 18th century or so. It is having a bit of a comeback of late though.”

Another added: “Some of the oldest ice cream flavours (say, late 1700s) were based on cheese, so this isn’t really that weird. Cheddar might be too sharp a flavour, though.”

Others, meanwhile, said cheese ice creams are commonplace in other parts of the world. “We’ve had this in The Philippines for ages now, although I don’t think the cheddar is as strong as the kind you’d get here,” one person explained. “I actually like it a lot, but then we’re used to the sweet and salty combo there.”

A second wrote: “Cheese Ice cream is quite common in India, its really nice sweet and salty/savoury is a great taste pairing that UK doesn’t do much of but we should! ” And a third shared their European encounter: “I had ricotta ice cream in Sicily. That was really nice.”
