Man Utd starlet Kobbie Mainoo postpones contract talks till after Euro 2024

Kobbie Mainoo will sign a number new deal with Manchester United following the Euros.

Mainoo has been a revelation this season, to become one of the rising stars of English football. And United bosses want to secure his long-term future with a contract that will see the midfielder’s wages quadruple to £80,000-a-week.

Mainoo has agreed to the offer in principle, but wants to put negotiations on hold until the Euro finals have taken place in Germany this season.

Mainoo, 19, has been included in Gareth Southgate’s initial squad, and is expected to make the cut when the England boss names his final one next weekend.

England face two warm-up games in the coming week against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland, before heading to Germany on June 10.

And Mainoo has told United he wants to focus on his international commitments first, before putting pen to paper on a new deal ahead of the start of next season.

New United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it one of his priorities to tie Mainoo down to a new contract to keep him at Old Trafford.

Mainoo only penned a new deal in February that runs until 2026, but his progress and development has been so startling that United want to reward him with another one which reflects his standing in the team.

Mainoo only made his first Premier League start in November, but quickly cemented his place in the United team with a number of stunning performances.

He was called up to Southgate’s squad for the first time in March, and made his England debut aged 18 as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Brazil.
