A person is feared to have fallen from London’s Tower Bridge, sparking a desperate rescue mission by the Metropolitan Police.
Witnesses claimed to have seen the person fall from the bridge on Monday June 3. Footage from the scene shows emergency services boats in the area. Police are now understood to have pulled the person out of the water.
Speaking to the Daily Star, an eyewitness said: “I saw that man, on the bridge barrier He just lept off, shouting. Sound was kind [of] heavy when he hit the water. Quite a splash.
“A boat was approaching, like a city cruise boat. I don’t know if the boat hit him or managed to avoid him
The eyewitness added that it “was definitely a man” but lost sight of things shortly afterwards. They continued: “Police and safeguards arrived five minutes afterwards. Couldn’t really see after that as they were behind the boat. I don’t know if they managed to catch him”.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, one person who claimed their partner witnessed the incident said: “Awful situation. My partner just saw someone jump from #towerbridge #London. Feeling terrible for whoever it was. @metpoliceuk now trying to find the poor soul. Praying they get them safely. Those waters are dangerous around the bridge.”
Speaking to the Daily Star, Met Police said: “Police were called at about 12:00hrs on Monday, 3 June, to reports of a person entering the water at Tower Bridge, Southwark.
“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. The man has been recovered from the water and was taken to hospital.
“His condition is not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.”
