ASOS t-shirt gaffe sparks outrage as eagle-eyed consumers ask ‘what’s taking place’

ASOS fans have been left baffled after spotting a number of spelling blunders on a t-shirt.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one eagle-eyed shopper was quick to show off the awkward error. Social media users were left in stitches, wondering how the tee managed to slip through the net without a grammar check – one even suggested a copywriter might have “died” from seeing the errors.

The slogan read: “Weve never been here Before” [sic] and had grammar buffs in a frenzy over the missing apostrophe in ‘we’ve’, while others couldn’t get over the random capitalisation of ‘before’.

One user said: “A copywriter just died somewhere reading this. (ASOS, come on, what is this? WEVE?!?)”. Another chimed in with: “No apostrophe, and a capital B? What is happening???” Meanwhile a third added: “The capital b on before is bothering me too.”

ASOS has become a go-to online destination for fast fashion and beauty goodies, stocking more than 850 brands. It has become a hit with young adults thanks to its range of styles and bargain prices. Established in London in 2000, ASOS originally stood for “AsSeenOnScreen”, with the slogan “Buy what you see on film and TV.”

It kicked off by selling replicas of outfits from our favourite shows and movies but has since expanded to sell an array of goods for all occasions, from basics to formalwear.

This particular item, the ASOS DESIGN long sleeve mesh baby tee, comes in a range of designs, including a denim look, ‘monochrome’, a scenic landscape with a motorbike on the front, or with a leopard’s head on the front.

While these ones do not feature any words at all, another design branded: “Venice, California” does not seem to feature any spelling mistakes.

ASOS has been contacted for comment.
