Football fans were left in awe of Olof Mellberg’s attire as he took charge of Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna over the weekend.
The ex-Premier League star is back in his native homeland – but he looked like he was already on his summer holiday as Brommapojkarna travelled to Västerås. Mellberg, with his trademark shaggy hair, wore a t-shirt and some comfortable shorts as he directed his team.
However, it was his choice of footwear that had fans in stitches – a pair of sliders. “Forget your roll-neck jumpers and slip-on loafers. Give us more managers like Olof Mellberg,” one fan joked.

“Looks like he’s only there to get the coin from the toss,” a second added. While a third replied: “You just cannot give your players the hairdryer in flip flops!”
“Olof Mellberg on the touch line managing his side Brommapojkarna in his casual gear/sliders like he’s putting the bins out,” a fourth joked. And another added: “He has the potential to become the most Barclays man of all time…”

Mellberg is best remembered on these shores for his time at Aston Villa, and his role in a freak own goal as Villa welcomed their bitter rivals Birmingham City to Villa Park.
Peter Enckelman misjudged a routine throw-in from team-mate Mellberg. Instead of controlling the simple ball, the keeper allowed it to trickle under his foot and into the net.
David Elleray, who was the man in the middle that day, judged that the Finn had touched the ball and let the goal stand. The laws of the game say goals cannot be scored direct from throw-ins.
“I know the rules,” Enckelman fumed. “A throw-in cannot go straight in. I can understand the fans’ disappointment and I am sorry for my mistake. Now the fans need to get behind the team and we need a win on Sunday – I’m already looking forward to the next game.”
