Man City ‘suing Premier League’ with authorized listening to date set amid 115 fees

Manchester City have launched legal action against the Premier League.

City, who wrapped up their fourth Premier League title on the bounce last month, are campaigning for the removal of the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules. According to The Times, City have launched legal action against the top flight as they look to remove the rules.

APT rules are designed to maintain the competitiveness of the Premier League by preventing clubs from inflating commercial deals with companies linked to their owners.

City claim that the rules have been introduced stifled their success. And the Champions are now looking to seek damages from the Premier League at a hearing set for next week.

If City are successful in their claim, they would be able to value their sponsorship deals without independent assessment for the league – vastly boasting the amount of money they could spend on incomings.

The report suggests that between 10 and 12 Premier League clubs have sided with the Premier League – providing either witness statements or a letter detailing evidence in support. While one team has sided with the Champions.

The clubs that have provided evidence might be summoned to the hearing to give evidence.

City filed their claim in February, with other Premier League clubs informed in March that a date in June had been set for the hearing.
