A Midlands pub described by a punter as “rough” as “an understatement” serves pints so cheap they can be bought by loose change.
The Pub At Bearwood is part of a string of family-run pubs around Birmingham that have been slated by punters.
Birmingham Mail journalist Kirsty Bosley, who has a thirst for rubbish pubs, decided to try out The Pub At Bearwood off the back of Facebook comments on an earlier story of her’s about the chain’s new outpost in Mosley.

A bloke called Peter wrote “same as the one in Bearwood, rough is an understatement”, while another fella, James, said that the King’s Heath branch was “the worst pub I’ve ever been in”.
Writing for BirminghamLive, Bosley wrote that she “loves a rough boozer”, however didn’t feel that The Pub at Bearwood was one, saying she felt “instantly comfortable” and that she rated it “better than ‘Spoons”.
Bosley described the pub as “one big room” which wasn’t busy, with almost every drinker propped up at the bar, which she has to lean over to buy a pint.
She said: “When I order one of their own Pub At lagers, leaning over punters to pay a ridiculously cheap £2.90 for the pint. I pay on card but the old man next to me has all of his coins and coppers, a fistful of shrapnel, spread out on the bar ready to go.”
The lager is “OK”, reports Bosely, but doesn’t have “much to it, no kick, no bitterness”, but it is “refreshing” and “great value”.
The pub has two gambling machines, one switched off, and a “snazzy” entertainment station with a black box covered in a diamante-studded black sheet, which Bosley suggested is used to host a disco or karaoke sessions.
Three large TVs lined the wall, one screening thunderbirds, while Lady Gaga sang Poker Face played on another.
Bosley wrote: “No frills, cheap beer, no messing. Moseley, you’re lucky to be getting a place like this on your doorstep!”
