Eddie Hearn explains how shut he and Frank Warren are from not being associates

Eddie Hearn has cheekily warned he’s just one dodgy interview away from a proper scrap with boxing rival Frank Warren.

The titan promoters clashed in an epic five vs five showdown on Saturday, where Warren’s Queensbury delivered a knockout blow to Hearn’s Matchroom with a stunning 10-0 clean sweep.

The pair each selected five fighters to duke it out at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, aiming to settle the score on who boasts the top stable. Despite admitting to being hammered, Hearn hailed it as “probably the best event I’ve ever done”.

Chatting with iFL TV on Wednesday, the 44-year-old promoter revealed that Warren, 72, was mostly all class after the dust settled, but he didn’t shy away from admitting that their newfound chumminess could hit the canvas if things get heated again.

“Was it even important, the points system? It was just about the fans and the boxing. I don’t think it really mattered who won,” Hearn quipped. “Frank has been extremely humble in victory. We’re getting on really well now, but you’re always kind of on the edge,” he said by the Express.

“You know, someone could say something in an interview, like, there have been no interviews in the last six months where me or Frank have slagged off each other or anything that we’ve done. But it probably only takes one interview.”

The boxing showdown saw five epic clashes between Queensbury and Matchroom fighters, with a knockout win bagging two points and a scorecards victory earning one point. Draws, however, left fighters empty-handed, while team captains scored double.

In a jaw-dropping headline fight, Queensbury’s Zhilei Zhang sent shockwaves through the arena with a stunning knockout of Matchroom’s Deontay Wilder, who seemed completely off his game.

Elsewhere, Daniel Dubois stopped Filip Hrgovic, Dmitry Bivol secured a TKO victory over Malik Zinad, Queensbury’s captain Hamzah Sheeraz stopped over Austin Williams, and Nick Ball clinched a split decision win against Ray Ford, leading Warren’s team to a total of five victories and 10 points.

“It was drubbing,” admitted Hearn. “People at Queensbury are really giving it to us. All of our team were on the later flight on Sunday, apparently they got stick the whole flight.”

“I flew home with Frank. He was definitely gloating, don’t worry about that. But it wasn’t to a point where you’re thinking, hang on, I thought we were sort of becoming friends.”
