Alan Brazil compelled onto weight-reduction plan after embarrassing scenario on Ryanair flight

TalkSPORT icon Alan Brazil recently revealed that a humiliating incident on a Ryanair flight forced him to shift a few pounds.

Brazil has been a big fan favourite since joining the station back in 2000, often revered for his no-nonsense approach and honesty, and speaking on the Formula For Success podcast he lived up to his name when regaling co-hosts David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan about the embarrassing event. The broadcasting provocateur was asked if a rumoured episode where he struggled to get out of his plane seat was actually true.

“There’s a story going around that you once sat in a Ryanair and the seats were too small and you couldn’t get out of the chair?,” Former F1 guru Jordan broached the former Scottish international. Brazil then enlightened his hosts by admitting it was true and going on to elaborate, however not before former F1 ace Coulthard threw in a jibe in disbelief adding, “I can’t believe that for one minute, did you go in a child seat?”

The former Ipswich and Spurs striker goes on to not only lament the condition of the plane he was flying in but also took the time to take a light potshot at Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary. “It was an old Ryanair plane, and as you know (Michael O’Leary) doesn’t invest too much in new stock, so I blame him,” Brazil glibly said before adding, “I squeezed in and when I got up the seat came with me, so my missus said, ‘that’s it you’re going on a diet’.

The mid-air misdemeanour isn’t the first time Brazil has found himself at the centre of attention. Most recently, Jordan claimed he struggled to keep up with the ex-Manchester United man when they met at Cheltenham.

Telling tales out of school again on the Formula for Success pod, Jordan revealed Brazil ordered many pints of Guinness on the morning of the festival before Brazil interjected to claim it resembled a work of art. “I saw this table was 16, 18 pints of Guinness, all freshly pulled and it looked absolutely majestic. And I’m saying, ‘Alan have you got a lot of pals coming?’ Jordan said, before Brazil replied: “It was like a Monet painting, wasn’t it?”

The F1 icon then continued: “The Monet painting soon disappeared because he consumed most of them. He said to me, ‘No, I don’t have any friends, they’re for us.’ Brazil was also famously once given the boot from TalkSPORT for missing a show after another Cheltenham bender.

Brazil was at the famous race meet in 2004, where a few pints of Guinness almost cost him his job. The former forward was indulging the black stuff until the early hours of the morning but then overslept and missed his show.

Brazil berated the poor hotel porter for not waking him up at 3.30am, however, he then discovered he did not actually get into bed until 3.50am – and he was promptly axed from the show. Luckily for his diehard fans though he was reinstated just three weeks after the mishap.
