The “society wedding of the year” has officially kicked off and it’s clear the ultra-rich groom has pulled out all the stops.
Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, is to tie the knot with camera-shy Olivia Henson in Chester Cathedral today. They plan on celebrating their nuptials after the formal service at noon by heading to the Duke’s Eaton Hall country estate, valued at an eye-watering £10 billion.
Road closures were announced around the city centre due to security operations, and locals flocking to the streets to spot the royal-studded guest list have been offered free ice creams from three local eateries: Cheshire Farm Ice Cream at Chester Market, Diddy Donuts underneath the Eastgate Clock and Krum Gelato on Watergate Street. The couple have also splashed out on more than 100,000 flowers which have been planted in displays across the city’s historic Rows, Manchester Evening News reports.

“The floral displays are a wonderful addition to the vibrancy of the city each summer, making the town centre awash with colour from locally grown flowers,” a spokesperson for the Duke said.
“While ordinarily the Summer Flowers project is funded by the Chester BID, The Duke of Westminster and Miss Olivia Henson have sponsored this year’s displays as part of local celebrations of their marriage at the Cathedral on 7 June. They are very grateful for all the support and kind wishes they have received from people and organisations ahead of their wedding.”
It has been reported that a “leafy arch” has been created in one of the main entrances to the Cathedral, as the couple have opted for a forestry theme wedding. The couple selected the stunning venue due its “beauty and long association with the Grosvenor family”. Hello! speculates Henson will wear a “classically cut and effortlessly chic dress” from an eco-conscious designer.
Prince William is expected to serve as an usher, while Prince George — the Duke’s godson — will reportedly play a “prominent” role at the luxury ceremony. Princess Eugenie has already been papped arriving at the Cathedral.
