Far proper’s ‘Three Musketeers’ may hand Putin victory in Ukraine, warns professional

The rise of three far-right politicians could spell disaster for Ukraine as the “Three Musketeers” may hand Vladimir Putin victory in Ukraine on a silver platter, an expert has warned..

Last weekend, the likelihood of a far-right party leading France, for the first time since WWII, became a possibility after National Rally and its leader Marine Le Pen secured a crushing victory over President Emmanuel Macron’s centrists at the European elections.

And in the US, Donald Trump’s supporters are more fired up than ever and seem unswayed by his recent criminal conviction for falsifying documents relating to the hush-money payment of a porn star. According to the polls, the former president looks like he may still beat Joe Biden come November.

Meanwhile, controversial Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who has referred to the Prophet Mohammed as “the devil” and called for the Quran to be banned, yesterday secured the formation of a right wing government in parliament.

Professor Anthony Glees, a European Affairs expert at the University of Buckingham, believes the rise of the trio could be positively disastrous for Ukraine as it continues in its desperate struggle to free itself from Vladimir Putin’s grasp.

Each of the three would likely court Putin for support, offering him a victory in Ukraine that he can sell to the war-weary Russian public. This could eventually lead to the warlord having more influence in Western Europe, he adds.

Professor Glees tells The Mirror : “The most important potential danger posed by the Three Musketeers of Trump, Le Pen and Wilders, is to Ukraine in the short term; the nightmare for Ukraine turns into a nightmare for all European democracies in longer term because the three could between them try to fashion a Europe that having kowtowed to Putin over the Ukraine and allowed him to claim a victory there, would then open the doors wide to Russian influence in Western Europe.

“This would allow the Russian dictator to get his clammy hands on the wealth that is contained within the European Union’s member states’ coffers and indeed within the Brussels and its institutions, most importantly the European Central Bank.

Russia has squandered its own riches on its awful war in Ukraine and Putin desperately needs European cash if he is to try to rebuild his country and recover from 500,000 to 1m dead and wounded and the damage that this does to the Russian economy.”

But before Trump is able influence the war, Presidents Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have agreed to sign a bilateral security agreement between the US and Ukraine during the G7 summit – which is running from today until Saturday. The leaders have also pledged an additional $50billion swiped from Russian assets frozen outside the country following the outbreak of war in February 2022.

Biden is doubling down on his support of the war-battered nation, aiming to send Russia a signal of America’s resolve in supporting Kyiv. “We want to demonstrate that the U.S. supports the people of Ukraine, that we stand with them and that we’ll continue to help address their security needs,” said national security adviser Jake Sullivan, adding “this agreement will show our resolve.”
