Jenny from the Block’s rocks: Who are J Lo’s sisters?

After a whirlwind second chance at romance which sent fans wild, fears are increasing that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez‘s love story has come to an end amid marital issues that have reportedly seen them move out of the home they share together.

As the strain on their relationship continues, a source has claimed the pair are ‘living separate lives’ while the Let’s Get Loud singer is ‘leaning on her mum, sisters and kids’. Meanwhile Ben is said to be finding solace with his friends including BFF Matt Damon, the source told Entertainment Tonight.

As J Lo, 54, is said to be spending more time with her family, her sisters, Lynda and Leslie, will no doubt be playing a huge part in supporting the pop princess, who has previously described her siblings as her ‘best friends’.

Despite her enormous fame, J Lo has always put her family first and has spoken with deep admiration about her siblings over the years – and the trio appear to be incredibly close.

As Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s marriage is said to be ‘on the rocks’ a source has claimed the couple are ‘living separate lives’ while J Lo leans on her mother and sisters

They have even made red carpet appearances with the star on several occasions, accompanying her to the most exclusive events in Hollywood – including this year’s Met Gala, in place of her husband Ben.

On Wednesday, it was reported that J Lo’s family have ‘turned against’ Ben, with a source telling Dailymail.com: ‘I understand that he has checked out of the marriage but she has yet to accept the truth of the situation and thinks that with therapy they might make it.’

Jennifer, Lynda and Leslie all grew up in the Bronx, New York, with their parents Lupe and David.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2020, J Lo said she and her sisters all shared a bed when they were children, because the family didn’t have much money.

She also said she, Lynda and Leslie all has a ‘love of music’ – something they inherited from their ‘young mum’.

And the musical streak didn’t just influence the middle sibling, Jennifer. Leslie, who is two years older than the pop sensation, is a music teacher who still lives in The Bronx.

According to People magazine, Leslie has been singing from the age of 16 years old and took on several stage roles during her schooling. One such role was Julie in a school production of Carousel.

After finishing school, Leslie went on to study opera and musical theatre and she still appears to sing in various choral groups today.

Generally, she tends to stay away from the spotlight – however she did reveal an insight into her childhood with her two sisters.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in 2002, the eldest Lopez sibling said Jennifer had been the ‘ringleader’ among the three sisters, adding: ‘Any plan that was concocted was usually her idea.’

She added that J Lo might now be one of the most famous faces in the world, but to Leslie, the singer will always be ‘my little pain in the butt sister’.

Meanwhile, Jennifer’s younger sister Lynda takes a more public role, as an Emmy award-winning journalist and producer.

She has worked as an on-air news correspondent for The Daily One on VH1, and picked up the gong for her work on WB 11 Morning News as an anchor.

While Leslie is now the most private member of the family, as the oldest sister, she would team up with Jennifer to pick on the youngest sibling, Lynda has previously claimed.

People reports Lynda said: ‘When we were kids, the two of them would beat up on me ’cause I’m the youngest.’

However, in the same interview, Jennifer clarified it was all just sibling banter and added: ‘We were all very close in age. She’s a year and a half younger than me, okay?’

While JLo is close with both of her sisters, she is more often spotted out and about with Lynda and has previously revealed the pair are ‘very close’.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, the singer said: ‘We’ve just always kind of been best friends.’

Lynda is also reported to have worked as her younger sister’s assistant on the set of Hustlers in 2019.

The youngest Lopez sibling often speaks publicly of her adoration for her famous sister, particularly on Instagram.

On J Lo’s birthday in 2021, she wrote a gushing Instagram caption in honour of her sister, which described the singer as her ‘original BFF’.

She wrote: ‘I love you more than words can say. Not only are you the most fun, and my ride or die, you light the world and show me what’s possible and are my inspiration always.

‘Sometimes I can’t believe I was so lucky that God put the beautiful soul that is you into my life. Wishing you your best birthday yet!’

Similarly, Jennifer has been known to send gushing love back in Lynda’s direction on her birthday.

‘Happy Mother’s Day to my Mommy. As the years go by, I realize more and more the sacrifices you made of yourself and your dreams to give us the opportunity and strength to live our own,’ began the wife of Ben Affleck

In a series of Instagram stories posted by Jennifer on Lynda’s 50th birthday in May 2023, she stood alongside her sister and made a speech at a party in which she got very emotional.

With her arm around Lynda, she described how the siblings ‘will always be there for each other.

She then broke down in tears as she turned to Lynda and described her as ‘an amazing, talented, beautiful, gorgeous angel from heaven’.

J Lo added: ‘I’m so lucky to have you as my baby sister and my best friend for 50 years.’

Her biggest issue is as a middle child – she has two sisters – she did not get enough love, which caused her to turn into a very hard worker so she would get noticed. Seen with Leslie and Lynda in 2005

Speaking about her siblings and her family just last month, amid rumours Ben Affleck is looking to ‘divorce’ her, Jennifer said: ‘The one thing you can always trust is family’.

She also shares a strong bond with her mother Guadalupe, who she paid tribute to on Instagram for Mother’s Day last month.

‘Happy Mother’s Day to my Mommy. As the years go by, I realize more and more the sacrifices you made of yourself and your dreams to give us the opportunity and strength to live our own,’ she wrote.

She added, ‘I love you and accept you for who you are. I appreciate all of the songs you sang and the dancing in the living room and all the stories you told where I would hang on every word and then cry from laughter at how you told them.’

The Atlas actress then added: ‘Thank you for the joy that you instilled in me. Your resilience and fearlessness lives within my bones and I am forever grateful for the beautiful times, and also for the inevitable difficult times as well.’

And Lopez finished with: ‘They make up our life and our relationship and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you just the way you are. Forever, Jennifer @jlothaqueen_’

Her remarks were in contrast to her depiction of her mother in her documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which was released earlier this year.

She claimed that it was hard growing up with a ‘narcissistic’ mother who was ‘the life of the party’ and an absentee dad who worked all night and slept all day. He was employed as a computer technician.

Lopez has addressed her mother’s over-the-top personality before in a previous documentary, Halftime from 2022.

‘My mom is a super complicated woman and she carries a lot of baggage, she wanted us to be independent and never have to rely on a man,’ said Jennifer.

And the star also said that her mother beat her: ‘She did what she had to do to survive, and it made her strong, but it also made her tough.

‘She beat the s**t out of us.’

They also fought about Jenny going to college: ‘I didn’t want to go to college — I wanted to try dance full time. So she and I had a break,’ she told W magazine. ‘I started sleeping on the sofa in the dance studio. I was homeless, but I told her, “This is what I have to do.”‘

Guadalupe was initially a cheerleader for her daughter’s relationship with Ben, saying she’d ‘prayed’ the couple would reunite.

‘I knew that you would always get back together because I prayed for 20 years,’ the doting mother told her daughter while chatting with Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie on the Today show in 2023.
