BBC Breakfast fans switched channels due to Nigel Farage appearing on the programme.
Anchors Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were sat talking to the Reform UK leader about the upcoming General Election on July 4 after the party overtook the Conservatives in a new poll. Farage, 60, was announced as the leader of the party last month and declared he would be standing in the election as the candidate for Clacton.
But while Farage appears to have a loyal following, those who tuned in to get the latest news were left unhappy when he discussed the party’s manifesto. When probed by Stayt, Mr Farage responded: “I’m going to launch our contract on Monday where I’ll lay out all of the costings of our plans.
“All I can tell you is that what we’re doing is bold and imaginative.” But Farage was soon interrupted by Charlie who pointed out that the website for Reform UK had been receiving advice from independent economists, think-tanks as well as advisors. Charlie said: “A moment ago you said you’re not about conformity, that just sounds like everybody else.

“Every other political party would say: ‘We’ve talked to independent advisers, we talked to a thinktank’. You sound like everyone else!” But Farage wasn’t happy with this, adding that he is far from being like everybody else. Farage fumed: “No, absolutely not. I’ve just outlined some very radical proposals. Equally, we don’t think anybody would pay inheritance tax until the estate is worth £2million.
“We want to lift the VAT threshold to help small businesses. I promise you, what’s coming on Monday is very, very different.” Viewers have since taken to social media to share their annoyance over Farage’s appearance, with one writing: “Oh God, Farage on BBC. Breakfast, I just can’t. Had to change the channel. Cannot stomach him.” While a second wrote: “Just muted #BBCBreakfast on the TV.”
Meanwhile, a third went on to write: “Not Farage again on BBC TV! Shocking sight on BBC Breakfast. TV off.” “That’s @BBCBreakfast switched off the next 10 mins. Good luck @TVNaga01, hope you can keep it together whilst ‘that man’ is on the sofa,” fumed another.
Another disgruntled fan said: “@BBCBreakfast switched off, cannot deal with listening to Farage and his bile.” But it appears that some welcomed Farage’s appearance, with one supporter penning: “Nigel Farage on #bbcbreakfast is making a lot of sense tbh.” A second added: “Nigel Farage on #BBCBreakfast? It’s about time the BBC gave Nige some airtime. He really hasn’t had much this election from our national broadcaster.”
