Dad ‘takes child out of faculty for Scotland in Euro 2024 instructional journey’

A football-mad lad and dad duo have left the internet in raptures with a highly controversial school absence note.

Scotsman Iain Meiklejohn wrote to his son’s school explaining that young Aleks would be missing upcoming classes as he was taking him on an “educational trip through Germany”. He explained that they would be following the Tartan Army around their Euros 2024 games “until whenever Scotland are eliminated.”

He said: “I’m just writing to inform you Aleks will not be attending school from Thursday June 13 until whenever Scotland are eliminated from Euro 2024.

“We will be going on an educational trip through Germany visiting several cities where we will study the extreme highs and lows that only a Scotland fan goes through.

“I will ensure Aleks completes a report on his return in full detail.

“M’on Scotland.”

The post was sent and went viral on June 12, with Iain later on admitting that the school had “not yet” responded. Iain later sent a screen grab of the email seemingly having been sent.

People had mixed responses in the replies, with one person writing: “As a teacher, these are the kind of absences I’d be perfectly ok with.”

Another supporter of the idea joked: “Honestly trips like this will stay with your son for a lifetime! Fair play mate. But at least he will be back in school for Monday 24th”.

One person wrote: “I doubt your be in the competition long enough for them to notice he’s missing.”

Iain and Aleks clearly meant it too and have since posted pictures of them in Germany. Initially, they sent a snap with the caption, “We’re off!” followed by another post from Frankfurt saying, “A wee wander through Frankfurt on our first day in Germany.”

Iain has stuck with the “education” element of the trip too, posting an update earlier today (June 14) saying:

“Today’s educational trip told us the following……

“- The Main Tower is 240m tall.

“- Frankfurt is the only German city with a ‘skyline’.

“- Aleks needs to practice ‘football pool’.

“- His measurements for finding the top corner are spot on!”

People in Germany have clearly been loving Iain’s post too. One wrote: “Makes me happy that you scottish guys have a nice time here!

“If I can help with anything or give you any advices what to visit in Germany lmk. Enjoy your trip”.

Another said: “ I am married to an Iain and we have a son called Alex. We live in Munich. We enjoyed reading your school email! Hope you have fun here!”

The Daily Star has made efforts to confirm the legitimacy of the email but has been unable to verify it at the time of writing.
