A Dutch football star who will represent his team at Euro 2024 has overcome a stutter to launch a hip-hop career.
Feyenoord centre-back Lutsharel Geertruida has been one the big revelations of this season, but he’s been known never to appear in front of the camera off the pitch. The player’s issue appeared to come to light after Dutch journalist Jan Joost van Gangelen, who works for ESPN, attempted to bring PSV player Jordan Teze in front of the camera, as a reward for his breakthrough this season.
The broadcasting giant then had a similar plan for Geertruida, but decided against it after a consultation with his club Feyenoord. Van Gangelen explained: “Now there is reason to explain that. He has played well again, but he stutters a lot! That is why Feyenoord has decided, in consultation with him, not to do interviews.”

Van Gangelen also disclosed that Feyenoord had previously tried to record a fan segment with Geertruida, however that “didn’t work”. The journalist said: “Someone who is physically top and a revelation simply cannot figure it out. That is especially annoying for him.”
But in a stunning twist it appears Geertruida has a successful side hustle as a hip-hop star. He released his own track on YouTube, Game Over. The 23-year-old also features on Dubbel T’s track ‘On top’.

As well as his budding rap career, Geertruida’s star on the football field has been on the rise. Not only has he been included in Ronald Koeman’s Dutch team for the upcoming European Championships but he has reportedly been watched by new Liverpool boss Arne Slot, who has experience managing the defender from their time together at Feyenoord.
Geertruida has played for his club 198 times and scored 23 goals and speaking on the youngster’s ability and rapid rise in the Eredivisie, Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt said: “It won’t take long for the interest of top European teams to be there for them (young Dutch players).
“I hope Liverpool is interested in Feyenoord players, and I am an example it can work. When I was working as under-19s coach, (Benfica star, Orkun) Kokcu and Geertruida were in my team at the time.”
