Kroos hailed as ‘particular’ as Scotland are unlocked within the opening ten minutes

Football fans have hailed Toni Kroos as ‘special’ after he unlocked the Scottish defence with a stunning ball less than ten minutes in Euro 2024.

Germany, who hosting the tournament, kicked off the festival of football against the Tartan Army on Friday evening. And it took less than ten minutes for the retiring superstar to prove he can still mix it with the best.

Kroos took the ball on the halfway line and, after noticing Andy Robertson out of position, sprayed the ball out wide to Joshua Kimmich. The Bayern man then squared the ball to Florian Wirtz, whose first time shot squirmed bast Angus Gunn.

Kroos will hang up his boots for good after the Euros, having already waved goodbye to club football after wrapping another Champions League with Real Madrid.

Delivering the news on Instagram, he said: “July 17th, 2014 – the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer – but especially as a person.

“It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end. At the same time this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro championship.

“As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. I am happy and proud, that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by my own. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level.”
