In total four ambulances are understood to have attended the scene, around 70km outside of Düsseldorf.

The same incident reports that the five Scots had rented a car after arriving at the airport, flying from Edinburgh ahead of the Euros. Shortly after collecting the car they were involved in a head-on collision with a Mercedes, with the Record reporting that the incident occurred on the wrong side of the road.

A source told the Record: “The fans had just arrived from Edinburgh and had hired a rental car.

“They appear to have gotten confused and driven on the left side of the road, in Germany we drive on the left side.
