Survey exhibits whether or not England & Scotland followers will cheer one another at Euro 2024

New research has revealed that as much as 35% of Scots will be cheering for England – their Auld Enemy – at the Euros as well as their own team.

A new survey from Betfair has revealed that 35% of Scots will cheer on England as well as their own nation at Euro 2024 this summer. On the other hand, 65% of Scots refuse to cheer on another nation – especially their arch-rivals – and will focus on supporting Steve Clarke’s men as far as they can.

Meanwhile, a whopping 61% of English football fans will be cheering for their Northern neighbours this summer, as they admit they will cheer Scotland on as well as England at the Euros.

A lesser amount of people will focus on England alone (39%), which is a stark difference compared to Scottish fans.

When it comes to how far their team will go in the tournament, English fans are far more optimistic than Scots this time around. A whopping 25% of English football fans say their team will reach the final, meanwhile just 5% of Scottish fans believe their team could make it there.

A total of 44% of Scots believe they won’t make it out of the group stages, with 36% hoping they get to the round of 16. A smaller pool of Scottish fans (11%) think that they’ll make it to the quarter finals, with even less (4%) believing that they could make it to the final four.

On the other hand, just 1% of English fans think they’ll remain in their group stage and not make it out – with 7% believing they’ll be put out in the last 16. A good amount of fans (30%) think England will be dumped out at the quarter-finals, meanwhile 37% think they’ll face heartbreak in the semi-finals.

A Betfair spokesperson said: “While we make England favourites to win Euro 2024 at 3/1, the same levels of optimism aren’t shared by the majority of football fans, with only 17% backing the Three Lions to go all the way and lift the trophy.

“Those supporters who do think England can go all the way are right to point out the talent in the squad, with most saying this is greatest England team since the 2006 golden generation, hopefully they can go further than that side and bring football home.”
