Dutch icon seems unrecognisable as he raps at a competition on the eve of Euro 2024

Football fans were left shocked when an unrecognisable Wesley Sneijder took to the stage at music concert on the eve of Euro 2024.

Sneijder, 40, is aiming for a Dutch No.1 with a hit themed on the Euros – the Dutch ‘Three Lions on a Shirt’ if you will. The ex-Dutch star has teamed up with singer songwriter Wesly Bronkhorst forming the duo Wes & Wes.

“I could never have imagined that we now form a singing duo together,” Sneijder told Dutch-outlet Privé. “But when I’m at a party, I often spontaneously pick up the microphone. People always like that.”

However, fans were more shocked at the appearance of the ex-Real Madrid man – who looked quite different to his playing days. And one fan joked: “Obviously made a few quid and gives zero f****, good for him!”

“Twice the man he used to be,” a second said. And a third added: “This is the last thing I expected to see today!”

Sneijder hung up his boots in 2019, after a spell with Qatari side Al-Gharafa. The Dutchman played at some of the top clubs across Europe – including Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Ajax, however he always seemed to save his best performances for the international stage.

He was untouchable for the Netherlands at the 2010 World Cup – especially against Brazil.

And that performance wouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone who watched him at the 2008 Euros. He produced one of the goals of the tournament against France, taking the ball on the edge of the box before curling it into the top corner.
