Man who took goat to the pub ‘completely gutted’ because it dies of liver injury

A bloke who took his beloved pet goat to the pub has been left “absolutely gutted” after the animal died of liver damage.

Actin was mental health pet and drinking buddy to Damian Stanley, an animal lover who made headlines for paying the Black Horse pub on Pall Mall in Chorley a visit with the caprine in 2022.

Damian bought Actin in 2021 and described the animal as having a “great personality”.

The goat was one of Damien’s 15 pets, however the animal had to be rehomed when he realised he didn’t have the room at his home to support or look after the goat.

Actin was sent to live with My Life Legacy, a charity in Standish which supports people with disabilities.

Talking to LancsLive, Damian said: “It was a liver problem apparently. They rang me on a Friday and said he’s not well, so the vet’s been in and is keeping him alive. They injected some stuff and I got there on the Saturday and he died on the Sunday.”

Reflecting on his pet, Damian says Actin was only two-and-a-half, but goats usually live for well over 10 years. “I was absolutely gutted,” Damian added.

Actin got his name from the phrase “acting the goat.”

Damian also has around 12 ferrets, two turkeys, two chickens as well as a host of other animals.

Roofi, an 11-year-old stray tabby, who has been cared for by staff at the Crystal Peaks shopping centre, and who “loves a good fuss” has been found with a bent and swollen leg.

Her carers have launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the costs of her vet bills, or to make her comfortable and loved in her final days.
