Thieves nick half the £250K Premier League trophy forcing bosses to switch it

The Premier League was forced to silently replace their trophy after thieves nicked half of it in Belgium.

The thieves were able to do away with a suitcase that contained the crown and the base, valued at £250,000, of the trophy. The Prem was able to keep the theft under wraps as neither item was ever found.

According to The Sun, the news came to light on Tuesday (June 18) as the Premier League announced its fixtures for the new season. However, Prem bosses were less than keen to publicise the face the suitcase had been stolen at a corporate event on the continent.

According to the report, the thieves did not realise what was inside, and the missing parts may have since been melted down after they were stolen in 2022.

It often has its own plane seat, and is normally heavily protected by a guard at events. A new trophy was produced by Asprey London after the theft.

The Premier League trophy isn’t the only famous piece of silverware to be stolen. Ahead of the 1966 World Cup the Jules Rimet trophy famously went missing on these shores.

However, it was saved by a dog: Pickles. David Corbett was walking Pickles when the collie found it in bushes at Upper Norwood, South London – he picked up a £5,000 reward while Pickles received a medal.
