Baby Reindeer star ‘noticed’ in Scotland crowd as Euros followers say ‘it needs to be’

Euros 2024 viewers have spotted a famous face in the crowd at Scotland v Switzerland – well they think they have.

On Wednesday night (June 19), Scotland drew 1-1 with Switzerland in the group stages of the Euros. And as the match aired on BBC One, it wasn’t just the football fans were concentrating on.

At one point, Switzerland’s Dan Ndoye tried to score a goal but the shot was saved by Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn who managed to skim the ball with his fingers and knock it off course. The camera then cut to the crowd, where a what looked like a very familiar Netflix star could be seen looking very tense.

Wearing a white Scotland shirt and a black cap, it looked to be none other than Baby Reindeer writer and star Richard Gadd was there celebrating his team’s save.

Viewers instantly picked up on it, with one sharing a screenshot and asking: “This has to be Richard Gadd, right?” Another said: “I just came looking for this! Surely!”

Someone else echoed: “I just came her to confirm that myself! Has to be him.” As someone else wrote: “Noticed that as well, had to rewind once but I’m pretty sure that’ shim.”

Richard then confirmed it, sharing a photo of himself cheering in the crowd on Instagram. He wrote: “Yes, it was me.

“What a game! Proud of the @scotlandnationalteam tonight.”

Fans joked in the comments, with one writing: “Christ she’s gonna find you again, take it down. Sent from i phon.”

Another said: “Don’t show her where you are.” While someone else said: “What’s up, Baby Reindeer?”

Meanwhile, the Scotland team was clearly feeling the support, as they replied with a Scotland flag and a waving emoji.

Comedian Richard shot into the spotlight earlier this year when his mini-series Baby Reindeer hit Netflix. It is adapted from his autobiographical one-man show.

It tells the dark story of how Richard’s character Donny is stalked by a customer, called Martha, at a pub he works at. It also deals with horrific sexual assault from a TV writer.

While the story is based on real life, there has been much speculation about who the actual people the characters are based on are. The “real Martha” eventually came forward after fans found her tweets to Richard online.

The woman – Fiona Muir-Harvey – has since vehemently denied stalking Richard, and that it was more fiction than fact. The woman’s legal team is gunning for a trial to chase “actual damages” of a jaw-dropping $50m, plus the cost of legal fees and statutory interest. They’re after a judgment against the defendants for this hefty sum, which they reckon is more than $50m, not counting the legal costs.

They want compensation for mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and business losses, all to the tune of over $50m, excluding legal fees.

They’re also demanding all profits from the hit show Baby Reindeer, expecting it to be over $50m, again not including legal fees. On top of that, they’re going for punitive damages believed to be over $20m, with pre-judgment interest from the date of the alleged wrongdoings until the judgment is passed, as well as any applicable post-judgment interest, and they want their attorneys’ fees covered too.

Netflix responded, telling Deadline: “We intend to defend this matter vigorously and to stand by Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story.”
