Boris Johnson’s memoir teased – as everybody makes identical joke about one-word title

Boris Johnson has released the details of his tell-all memoir – and everyone is making the same joke about it.

The ex-PM’s book will be called Unleashed and will take a deep dive into Mr Johnson’s journey from London mayor to being in No10. He has described the release of the book on October 10 as the moment his thoughts on Britain’s future “explode over the publishing world like a much shaken bottle of champagne”.

The cover features a spooky black and white photo of him with his face barely visible in the shadows. His messy hair is bright white, standing out against the black background. HarperCollins, who is publishing it, described the memoir as an “honest, unrestrained and deeply revealing book”, which reveals why he took the decisions he took as PM, including during the pandemic.

But social media users were quick to mock Mr Johnson, who quit as an MP after being found to have lied over Partygate, with many making the same joke about whether the book would be displayed under the biography or fiction section.

One wrote on X: “Brace yourselves for a self-serving tale of deception and broken promises!” Another said: “And then begins the debate for booksellers- do they display it under Biographies or under Fiction.” Another user responded: “Fantasy would be my choice.”

In a press release advertising the book, HarperCollins wrote: “From trouncing Ken Livingstone in the London mayoral race in 2008 to becoming Prime Minister, he takes readers through all the big decisions during his time in power and the reasons he took them. The challenges and crises, how they were resolved – or not – and how he nearly died from Covid.

“Riots, knife crime, bikes, buses, the London Olympics and so much more. He writes about his role in Brexit and the constitutional sea-change that took place in British politics in 2019 – with his landslide election victory and the massive expansion in the groups that think of themselves as Conservative. “

Boris Johnson said: “I am honoured that HarperCollins is publishing my personal account of the huge realignment that took place in UK politics in the last 15 years – and what may lie ahead. So stand by for my thoughts on Britain’s future to explode over the publishing world like a much shaken bottle of champagne.”

William Collins Publishing Director Arabella Pike said: “Unlike most top politicians, Boris Johnson is also a writer. His book, Unleashed is compulsively readable, stuffed to the brim with serious reflections on his time in office but written with his charismatic trademark wit, his vivid use of language and stories galore. We are delighted to be publishing this autumn.”

The former PM has been taking a back seat during the General Election, making endorsement videos for selective candidates but not featuring on the campaign trail.
