Walker’s ‘ridiculous’ function in Kane purpose for England has followers asking identical factor

Harry Kane is up and running in Germany – breaking the deadlock against Denmark – but it was his team-mate that stole the limelight.

England kicked off their second Euro 2024 fixture on Thursday evening looking to build on their performance against Serbia. And after Victor Kristiansen didn’t judge the pace of Kyle Walker, the lightning-quick Manchester City man burst into the area.

Walker picked up his head and squared the ball via a couple of deflections to Harry Kane, who turned the ball past an outstretched Kaspar Schmeichel. But it was Walker’s speed that left football fans in awe.

“Kyle Walker should not be that fast at 34,” one fan declared. While a second said: “How Walker is still so fast at his age is crazy!”

“Walker is stupidly fast that’s so f***ed he should of never won that race,” a third posted. And another added: “Walker is so fast holy moly, at that age is insane!”

Kyle Walker was past the Danish defender in a flash

Walker was playing in his 85th game for the Three Lions – at his fifth tournament – with only Kane having more England caps than the full-back.

Speaking ahead of the game, Walker said: “Of course I want to go as far as I can. To represent my country as many times as I have done – honestly, I never thought I’d do it once, so to do it for the amount of years I’ve done it, I have to say is a credit to myself.

“But I look at Pepe and he’s 41 playing for Portugal. So, they’re the levels people are setting now, the likes of Luka Modric, people like that. These are people carrying on for top teams at a top level for a considerable amount of time. If they can do it, why can’t I?”

The Three Lions’ lead was short lived. Morten Hjulmund, with no England defenders closing him down, decided to try his look from distance – pulling the trigger from 25 yards out. The Danish midfielder picked out the bottom corner, leaving Jordan Pickford with no chance.
