Rashford’s brother takes purpose at Southgate after England’s dismal Denmark draw

Marcus Rashford‘s brother has thrown some shade at England boss Gareth Southgate after the Manchester United ace was snubbed for the Euro 2024 squad.

The 26-year-old forward’s sibling couldn’t resist a cheeky jab following England‘s lacklustre 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday. Rashford had a bit of a mare this season at United, netting a measly seven goals in the Prem and setting up just two more.

The Red Devils ended up in a disappointing eighth place, and Rashford himself seemed to have lost his mojo, a far cry from the previous season’s 30-goal haul under Erik ten Hag’s leadership. Despite ending the season on a high with a strong showing in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, it wasn’t enough to convince the England boss.

The forward’s form had taken such a nosedive that Southgate decided to give him the boot from his Euro 2024 squad, opting instead for rising stars like Anthony Gordon and Eberechi Eze who’ve been smashing it at their clubs. Rashford, taking the high road, posted on his Insta story: “Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament.”

However, after a dismal performance against Denmark resulted in a frustrating draw, Rashford’s agent and brother, Dwaine Maynard, took to social media to vent. He wrote: “It’s hard to sit and watch when you honestly believe your man could make a difference!”

Southgate had to make some tough calls, admitting: “You are talking about very good players who have been important in what we’ve done over a number of years.”

He added, “With Marcus, I just feel that other players in that area of the pitch had better seasons. It’s as simple as that,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

Prior to Euro 2024, Rashford has represented England at every major tournament since his international debut in 2016. He will next be joining his United team-mates when they head to the United States for their pre-season tour.
