Exact locations in Tenerife rescuers hope to search out lacking Brit Jay Slater

British teen Jay Slater is still being searched for in Tenerife by Spanish police in the region.

The 19-year-old from Lancashire was last heard from on June 17 is believed to be missing in the mountainous region of Masca – about an hour’s drive, and a 10-hour-long walk from where his friends had booked a rental property in the touristy area of Los Cristianos.

Lancashire police have offered to help with the search, but Spanish police say they are fully equipped to handle it. They have now extended their search area to a 30-kilometre area, which includes three ravines in the area where they hope to find him.

A search and rescue worker told the Mirror : “We still have hope that he’s alive – up until the last moment when the last hope is lost.”

He added: “We’ve been up and down but, until now, nothing. We haven’t found anything.” He noted: “The truth is that we feel a bit frustrated because we can’t find him. It’s so big here that it’s very difficult to search in such a steep area.”

He said they spent time searching the Masca ravine that is below and through the town, but so far they have not found him there. The second ravine they are concentrating on is a path along the Las Portelas hills, and the high part of the trail. They followed the trail to the ravine where Jay took a selfie, potentially his last, but because of the steep terrain it has been difficult for the team to search more than they already have.

They have brought in drones to search those ravines and another nearby, in the hopes that drones can have more scope and reach than human rescuers.

The rescue is concentrated around Masca, as Jay is believed to have last been seen at a rental home called Casa Abuela Tina, right outside of the village of Masca. The teen posted a snapchat video of himself there on Monday June 17, after leaving the NRG festival the night before with two strangers. The owner later claimed he saw Jay walking uphill into the mountains.

On Monday morning Jay called his friend Lucy saying he was lost and needed water. Investigators know that Jay missed the last southern bus home, and attempted to walk the ten hour distance between this property and the one he was staying in with his friends.
