Royal Ascot violence erupts as struggle beneath royal field leaves punter bloodied

A blood-soaked bust-up at Royal Ascot left onlookers in shock as two suited men grappled on the ground near the royal box.

As racegoers watched the ghastly scene on Friday (June 21), the men were seen wrestling each other to the ground, while others tried to intervene, reports the Mirror.

One of the brawlers was yanked back by spectators but still managed to land a kick on the second man, who ended up with a bloody nose and was later escorted away from the fracas.

The melee, caught on camera, had bystanders yelling “easy, easy” as it was shared across social media, racking up nearly 600,000 views on X alone.

This unsightly skirmish, the cause of which remains a mystery, has potentially tarnished the prestigious reputation of Royal Ascot, an event steeped in horse racing legend, attracting thousands over five days of high society revelry.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were present on the day, enjoying the races from the sanctuary of the Royal enclosure. Both Royal Ascot and Thames Valley Police have been contacted for comment.

Royal Ascot boasts a storied past, established in 1711 by Queen Anne, and has since become a highlight of Britain’s summer social scene, as well as a showcase for top-tier thoroughbreds.

The racecourse attracts roughly 600,000 visitors annually, accounting for a staggering 10% of all UK racegoers. Its close ties with the British Royal family and proximity to Windsor Castle (six miles) have helped the event maintain consistent popularity over the years.
