Gary Lineker advised he’s ‘unacceptable’ earlier than England recreation as Shearer pokes enjoyable

Alan Shearer didn’t hold back on his thoughts about Gary Lineker missing out on their The Rest is Football podcast – leaving Micah Richards in hysterics.

The banter was flying high as the former England strikers and pundit pal Micah Richards geared up for the latest instalment of their hit show, which dropped just hours before England’s crunch Euro 2024 group stage clash with Slovenia tonight (June 25).

With Lineker nowhere to be seen, Shearer and Richards had to go it solo for this one. And the former didn’t miss the chance to have a pop at the absent Match of the Day frontman, reports the Mirror.

The Newcastle legend quipped: “Gary is still sleeping in his bed, he still hasn’t woken up so we’ll just crack on without him Micah,” before hammering home his point: “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is f***ing unacceptable, where are you Lineker?”

Richards jumped in with a quick save for Lineker, explaining the situation. “He wasn’t late in fairness was he, I’ve got an appointment, when you go on TV, you’ve got to look sharp, so my barber’s come over and I’ve got a 3pm appointment!”

Right before they called it a day on the episode, Lineker made a dramatic entrance, much to the delight of his mates, only to get a light-hearted telling-off from Shearer who joked: “The old man has arrived, he’s late, your hair’s all ruffled, you’ve been asleep haven’t you?”

The former England captain revealed he’d been engrossed in a book in the garden courtyard, with Frank Lampard among witnesses to vouch for him. Lineker even cheekily called his podcast mates “t***ers” amid the ribbing.

This past week, Shearer and Lineker, who shared the pitch for England at Euro 1992, didn’t hold back in their critique of England’s lacklustre 1-1 draw against Denmark, with Lineker branding the performance “s***”.

England skipper Harry Kane hit back, reminding the veteran pair of their influence as ex-England stars. “Everyone has got their opinion but the bottom line is we have not won anything as a nation for a long, long time and a lot of these players were part of that as well, so they know how tough it is,” said the Bayern Munich forward.

Kane pointed out the difficulty of competing in major tournaments and representing England, urging past players to be supportive. “It is not digging anyone out. It is just the reality that they know that it is tough to play in these major tournaments and tough to play for England.

“We all want to win a major tournament. Being as helpful as they can and building the lads up with confidence would be a much better way of going about it.”
