Nigel Farage booed by celebs throughout awkward TRIC Awards acceptance speech

Nigel Farage was furiously booed as he collected an award at the TRIC Awards in London today.

The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here star walked the green carpet earlier in the day, and today, he came on stage to collect the award where he was jeered by the celebrity crowd. Shrugging off the frosty reception the politician said: “It’s a bit like a wrestling event isn’t it!”

Speaking as he collected his award, he said: “Those that boo clearly don’t get what a competition is. A massive thank you to our viewers but I also want to say a big shoutout as I did some work for another TV company. I did spend some time in the I’m A Celebrity jungle and Fred I’ve seen up here. He and I would never agree but we did work well together in the camp. I’m A Celebrity, a great show. Sadly my TV career has been somewhat curtailed because I have another mission coming up on the 4th July.”

Farage is currently standing for the political party Reform UK. Speaking at a press conference a few weeks back, he confirmed he would be standing after a U-turn. He said at the time: “Difficult though it is, I can’t let down those millions of people, I simply can’t do it, it’d be wrong. So I have decided I’ve changed my mind, it’s allowed you know, it’s not always a sign of weakness, it could potentially be a sign of strength. So I am going to stand in this election.”

Farage will also be known to TV viewers for his stint on I’m A Celebrity, where the ITV show lost millions of viewers over his appearance on the show, including Mirror readers who boycotted the programme at the inclusion of Farage. Before his entry into the jungle, he boasted the show would help bring more viewers in.

He said at the time: “Do you know what? There’s a lot more people who haven’t watched the programme that know me or supported me – some of the millions that have supported me over the years – I think net, I’ll bring people to the programme, not diminish.

“All right? Anyone who’s a lover of I’m A Celebrity who doesn’t watch it just because I’m on it has got to be an incredibly small-minded person.” It is believed he was paid a huge £1.5million to take part in the show and became the second politician in two years to cause controversy, when Matt Hancock competed in the previous series.

Farage was the butt of many of hosts Ant and Dec’s jokes. In a funny skit on the show, Ant and Dec poked fun at ratings for Farage’s employer, GB News.

Dec said: “ Nigel Farage. Not just known for his controversial political career, he’s also got his own show on GB News. Of course, he won’t be presenting that over the next three weeks. So we’d like to apologise to all of GB News’s viewers.” Ant then added: “Sorry Keith, sorry Linda,” as they both laughed.
