Omaze reacts to winners flogging mansions right away – 26 are millionaires

Whenever the Daily Star reports on the latest Omaze million pound house prize draw winners, we’re often met with people pointing out one thing – pretty much every winner admits to wanting to sell the house the day they get the keys.

Earlier this week, we reported on Oceanne Belle, 49, who said she and her partner wanted to cash in on their £5million Grade II-listed townhouse to move closer to family and friends and help her achieve her dream of becoming a paediatric nurse.

She won the Grade II-listed property in Chelsea, one of the capital’s most expensive postcodes, after paying £10 for a ticket in the most valuable Omaze Million Pound House draw ever held.

The University of Sunderland student moved into the three-bedroom Georgian townhouse, which boasts three bedrooms and three bathrooms with a balcony overlooking other million-pound homes, with partner Didine. She also won £100,000 in cash which she said meant she had no money worries while living in the area.

However, flogging the house has proved far too tempting for most.

And this, an Omaze spokesman told the Daily Star, is actually something the organisation welcomes – in fact, they’re rather pleased about it.

‘It will transform their lives,’ Omaze said

They said: “Everyone at Omaze is absolutely delighted for the Grand Prize winners who decide to turn their winning entry – which cost just tens of pounds – into millions of pounds by selling their houses to transform theirs and their loved ones’ lives forever.

“All Omaze winners are free to decide if they either live in their house, rent it out for a supplementary income or sell it whenever they wish to become a cash multi-millionaire – the choice is entirely theirs. Omaze clearly promotes the fantastic choices available to its lucky winners.

They are free to put the house on the market and bank the cash as soon as they get the keys, it’s totally up to the winner what they want to do with their life changing prize. Many Omaze winners choose to enjoy their new home for a period before selling to become a cash multi-millionaire.”

If they do choose to retain the property, they also win £250k to help them settle in, as well as helping with maintenance costs. And while running costs estimates on each house are available on the Omaze website to view before buying a ticket, they clarified some of the finer details surrounding that.

They went on: “The Surrey and London IV Houses have estimated annual routine running costs of £10,800 and £12,024 respectively.

Omaze has so far made 26 millionaires

“Omaze is immensely proud to have created 26 millionaires whilst also raising more than £44 million for good causes in the UK since it launched here.”

And let’s be honest, turning £10 into £5million is one incredible profit margin, so why wouldn’t you want to sell up? We know what we’d do.
