Glasto revellers fuming as bosses refuse to indicate England’s essential Euro sport

Football-loving Glasto punters have are raging over the festival’s refusal to show England’s next big Euro 2024 game.

The legendary music festival’s bosses announced it would not screen the last 16 Euro 2024 games for England and Scotland at Worthy Farm in Somerset. Organisers made the decision out of concern the games would potentially clash with headline acts.

The Three Lions face off against Slovakia on Sunday at 5pm, the same time as Janelle Monte prepares to take over the Pyramid Stage following Shania Twain’s set and Nothing But Thieves play the Other Stage.

This could see sports fans among the festival’s 200,000-odd crowd left unaware of the score, unable to connect to data on Glastonbury’s notoriously rubbish phone signal.

In a statement, Glastonbury organisers said: “In previous years, we have endeavoured to show notable matches on big screens where possible, particularly on days before the main stages have opened.

“However, with England and Scotland’s last 16 matches potentially clashing with headline sets at this year’s festival, the decision has been made that – as in 2014 and 2016 – should England or Scotland qualify from their groups, their last 16 matches will not be shown at the festival.

“We would like to wish both Gareth Southgate and Steve Clarke’s sides all the best in Germany. And we hope we’ll all be able to watch them play quarter-final matches in the days after this year’s festival.”

This is in spite of festival’s decision to screen England’s men’s and women’s World Cup quarter finals in 2010 and 2019, respectively, reports MailOnline.

Folk took to X to complain with one punter commenting: “Genuinely baffled what will happen at Glastonbury when England play this weekend. It’s not being shown so, gather round the nearest random with decent enough 5G to stream off his phone? All leave the site to pack 50,000 in a pub? Get Janelle Monae to update the score?”

Another quipped: “ My Glastonbury mate just told me the festival wouldn’t be showing the England game on Sunday and he’s left with Shania twain instead. That doesn’t impress him much.”

Yet, after England’s woeful game against Slovenia last night, Wednesday, June 26, some football fans were unfazed.

One person wrote: “Shania finishes her Glasto legends slot with ‘so you’re Gareth Southgate, that don’t impress me much’ just as England kick off you heard it here first…”
