Man Utd intention to signal breakout Euro 2024 star with key benefit in switch race

Swiss winger Dan Ndoye has caught the attention of Manchester United following his standout performances in Euro 2024.

The 23-year-old Bologna player, who was overlooked for Switzerland’s World Cup squad in 2022, has been a key figure in Murat Yakin’s team in Germany at Euro 2024. He played all three group matches, helping Switzerland secure second place behind the hosts, and scored in a 1-1 draw against them.

If United were to pursue Ndoye, it would mark the second time he has signed with a team associated with Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The Premier League club’s part-owner previously brought the young player to Nice in 2019 after he had risen through the ranks at another of Sir Jim’s clubs, Lausanne-Sport.

After his stint in France, Ndoye returned to Switzerland, playing for Basel before joining his current club, Bologna, in 2023. Last season, he made 32 appearances in Serie A, scoring a crucial goal in a late-season victory over Napoli that secured Champions League qualification.

Sky Italy reports Ndoye has ‘caught United’s eye’ after his impressive performance against Germany. His early goal nearly saw Switzerland top Group A, only for Niclas Fullkrug to score a last-minute equaliser for Julian Nagelsmann’s team.

Ndoye is also reportedly on the watchlist of several Italian clubs, including Inter Milan, the 2023-24 champions, who are set to lose several players, including former United forward Alexis Sanchez, when their contracts expire this summer. Bologna forked out just over £7m to snap up Ndoye from Basel, and while the sale price hasn’t been whispered, the buzz from England and Italy suggests they could pocket a pretty penny if they decide to sell, reports the Mirror.

Ndoye isn’t the only global talent on United’s radar this summer. Portuguese whiz kid Joao Neves has been on the wishlist for ages, and Canadian ace Jonathan David, who’s busy with Copa America duties, keeps getting his name thrown into the mix.

But one man who doesn’t seem headed for Old Trafford is Jean-Clair Todibo. The French centre-back’s at Nice, and it looks like Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s grumbles about UEFA blocking a deal might be about him.

“They’ve said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can’t sell to Manchester United,” Sir Jim told Bloomberg. “But that’s not fair on the player and I don’t see what that achieves.”
