Declan Rice shoved in livid altercation with Slovakia boss after England win

Declan Rice was engaged in a bust-up with the Slovakia boss seconds after England‘s thrilling Euro 2024 last-16 win.

Sunday’s (June 30) clash was as dramatic as it could get for the Three Lions who were moments away from crashing out of the tournament after going 1-0 down in the first half through Ivan Schranz’s strike.

After failing to test Newcastle stopper Martin Dubravka for much of the game, Jude Bellingham’s stunning over-head kick saved England from shame to level the score and take the game into extra-time.

There was only 190 seconds between Bellingham’s equaliser and Harry Kane’s header which proved to be the winner in Gelsenkirchen and booked a quarter-final tie next Saturday (June 6) against Switzerland, who dispatched Italy 2-0 on Saturday (June 29).

Celebrations on the touchline were sparked after the full-time whistle blew and while many of the Slovakia players were left slumped on the pitch after coming within seconds of claiming a giant scalp in England, the head coach Francesco Calzona angrily made his way towards the officials.

With the Italian inches away from the referees, Rice appeared to step to the Slovakia boss telling him not to get involved which prompted Calzona to shove the midfielder in the chest, with Rice then having to be led away by team-mates Ivan Toney and Aaron Ramsdale.

The Slovakia head coach was apparently displeased with a potential foul that went uncalled by the referee Umut Muler late in extra-time.

Gareth Southgate’s blushes were spared by Bellingham and Kane on Sunday as a loss for England may have spelled the end of his eight-year tenure as Three Lions boss.

While the FA reportedly want Southgate to remain as manager despite what happens this summer, his potential exit after Euro 2024 has been a much-talked-about topic for several months.
