Jay Slater police urged to ‘begin once more’ by ex-cop with chilling ‘intestine feeling’

As the hunt for vanished Brit teen Jay Slater continues an ex-Scotland Yard officer has urged the search party to “start again”

Former Met officer Graham Wettone, who clocked in three decades with the force, urged Spanish police to take up the offer of assistance from their British counterparts, hinting a remote £40-a-night Airbnb might hold crucial clues.

The holiday let is where two fellow Brits reportedly dropped Jay off at, following a rave at the famed Playa de las Americas hotspot.

Jay’s been missing since June 17 in a mystery that Graham describes as “very bizarre”. The duo who reportedly gave Jay a lift to the Airbnb were in their late 30s to early 40s.

Spanish law enforcers are brushing off the pair as “irrelevant” to their probe.

Graham told MailOnline: “I’ve been following this case closely and discussing it with colleagues and it’s certainly a very bizarre one, lots of things just don’t add up.”

He implored local authorities not to snub the hand being extended by Lancashire constabulary, reports the Mirror.

Capping off, Graham pointed out: “I’m sure the Spanish police kept their details and if need be can go back to them and investigate them with the help of British police.”

He explained why the mysterious Brit pair weren’t detained: “I know people are saying these two should have been kept but unless there is any real incriminating evidence it would be hard to keep them in Spain.”

“That’s why I would start again from the beginning and speak to all the witnesses again, my gut feeling is that many of them may not be telling the truth. I would hope that they have at least secured the Airbnb because if evidence is there then it will need to be gathered.”

He is now urging them to “go back to their starting point” and look from there for the 19 year old.

The apprentice brickie from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was last heard from when he rang his mate Lucy Law, who he was crashing with on the Monday morning, saying he was trying to walk home and that his mobile was about to die. A fortnight-long search of the area around where his phone was last tracked to was called off on Sunday after crews failed to find anything.

A report from crime reporter Isla Traquair read: “The two blokes that he went to go and stay with, they had met them three days before. They hung out with them, they made mates on holiday. It wasn’t two random people he’d met that night. They’d established a friendship and Brad said they seemed like really cool guys.”
