Southgate ‘hit roof’ and referred to as emergency assembly over England leaks ‘betrayal’

Gareth Southgate has hit the roof after news of his team selection was leaked.

And he will be on the floor should it hand Switzerland a crucial advantage ahead of tomorrow’s Euro 2024 quarter final showdown in Dusseldorf.

Southgate called an emergency meeting with his staff, when it emerged his plans to switch tactics and go with a back three had become public knowledge.

Do me a favour.

Southgate will like to think he’s left no stone unturned when it comes to facing Switzerland, and that he knows what team and tactics they will play. And it works the other way round too.

If Southgate believes he’s been betrayed by people in the press, he should think again. And look a little closer to home to find out where the information has come from.

Because it came from within his own camp. People talk. It happens at every major tournament. And there’s nothing Southgate or anyone else can do to stop it.

Despite the fact he summoned all of the players’ agents to St George’s Park ahead of the last Euros, and told them not to discuss team matters. Southgate prides himself on keeping his cards close to his chest.

So it’s understandable he’s less than impressed now they’ve all been laid out on the table. But he’s got much more important things to worry about than having a mole on his hands.

Like winning a game of football – to keep him and his team in the competition.
