New Zealand TV reporter stuns viewers with ‘mic drop’ on UK election

A TV news reporter stunned viewers in New Zealand with her reporting of the UK election result.

Lisette Reymer, who is the Europe Correspondent for News Hub, was filmed outside the steps of 10 Downing Street and the clip was shown on Friday following Keir Starmer’s dramatic Labour landslide win.

Addressing the camera in the footage above, she said: “The change in power has appeared inevitable for months… if not years. Today’s result was so predictable, I was able to film this weeks in advance, before flying home to New Zealand.”

One Twitter user called it “Super cheeky and smart” while another added “Even more brilliant, she’s wearing the same frock in the studio now.”

Warner Bros Discovery announced the closure of Newshub in April.

Presented by Samantha Hayes and Mike McRoberts, the news anchors gave an emotional goodbye to the programme, appearing tearful on air.

McRoberts told viewers: “Thank you for being our people, we’ve absolutely loved being yours.”

It will be replaced by ThreeNews, on the Three New Zealand channel, and will be produced by the media company Stuff with Hayes remaining as a main presenter.
