England followers calling for financial institution vacation if Three Lions clinch Euro 2024 remaining spot

England supporters are clamouring for a national bank holiday should Gareth Southgate‘s heroes reach the Euro 2024 final.

The Three Lions nailed all five spot-kicks against Switzerland, securing their place in the semi-finals against the Netherlands in Dortmund on Wednesday (July 10). Should they triumph in their upcoming clash, they’ll be battling it out in the final on Sunday, July 14, with an 8pm start.

But with the match finishing late, some footie fans reckon Monday, July 15, should be a day off nationwide, branding it a “write-off”. They’ve even hit social media to push their campaign.

A viral video shared by Georgeana Burkett shows one bloke insisting that “not one person in England” will rock up to work on Monday if they’re glued to the game. Reece, a die-hard fan, exclaimed: “One’s on Tuesday night, one’s in a Wednesday night semifinals.”

“But then if we get through to the final guess when the final is? Guess what time the final is? Eight o’clock kickoff on Sunday night. A Sunday night!

“Now, that has to be announced as a national Bank Holiday. No one is going to work that next day. Not one person in England. No one. And if you do, your life is boring. You’ve got no life.”

In the footage, which has racked up more than 132,000 likes, his family can’t stop laughing as Georgeana reminds him that “it’s not the King’s Coronation” and teases him for his “dramatics” in her caption.

TikTok‘s footie fans are rallying behind a user’s call for a national sickie if England lands a place in the final. One supporter posted: “He ain’t wrong. Any English football fan, IF we were to get to the final and WIN… Monday is a write-off!”

Another eager beaver chimed in: “Get a petition going.” A third admirer gushed: “This man should be the me PM,” while another agreed, saying: “He has a point.”

But not everyone’s on board with the cheeky plan, as one sceptic pointed out: “He’s got a point but sadly it ain’t coming home.”

The Three Lions are set to battle it out with the Netherlands on Wednesday, July 10, at 8pm for a shot at glory. If they triumph, they’ll go head-to-head with either France or Spain in the ultimate showdown, depending on who emerges victorious in tonight’s clash.
