Two suitcases containing human stays left on Bristol bridge

Two suitcases believed to contain human remains have been found by officers as police launch a man hunt.

Officers were called to reports of a man seen acting suspiciously on Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol shortly before 12am yesterday.

A police spokesperson said they arrived at the bridge within 10 minutes but the man had fled – leaving behind two suitcases near each other.

Police said it is believed both cases contained human remains.

An investigation has been launched to try and find the unknown man and to identify the remains.

The man was taken to the bridge in a taxi, which has been seized and the driver is assisting the force with their enquiries.

Acting Bristol Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen said: ‘This is a very disturbing incident and I fully recognise the concern it will be causing our communities.

‘The investigation is being led by our Major Crime Investigation Team and involves specialist officers and staff from across our organisation.
