Where ‘One Pound Fish’ man is now as he releases England model of iconic music

‘One Pound Fish’ man may have not been allowed to come back into Britain following a visa breach, but that hasn’t stopped him championing the Three Lions ahead of their Euros 2024 finals game.

Muhammad Nazir, the legendary “£1 fish man” who went from market hawker to pop star to vape seller, has released his rendition of It’s coming home, England’s football song.

Showing his support for Gareth Southgate’s boys, Nazier released his song on Instagram and X. Dressed in a red, blue and green chequered shirt, and in front of an ornate set of gold curtains, Nazier starts off with a rather slow version of It’s coming home before mashing it up with his viral hit and picking up the pace.

Bridging the two songs he sings: “Come on England. Come on England. One pound fish. Come on England. Come on England. You should win. Come on England. Come on England. One pound fish. Come on England. Come on England. You should win,” before breaking off into his classic hit.

When he’s finished his song, he says: “Best wishes to England in Euro 2024. We will win, England. Thank you.”

Nazier, who was living on a student visa in the UK, reportedly came up with the lyrics “very, very good, one pound fish, very, very cheap, one pound fish” when his boss asked him to find a way to get customers’ attention when he worked as a fishmonger at Queen’s Market, London in 2012.

However, the song One Pound Fish proved so popular it peaked at number 28 in the UK Top 40 and bagged him a Warner Music deal.

The market trader turned pop star said he went back to his native Pakistan in December 2012 to apply for a French visa so he could perform there. By this time though, immigration services realised his UK visa had expired and told him to apply for a new one.

Unfortunately for the new viral sensation, his new record deal was deemed to have breached his previous visa and the application for his second one was rejected.

In an interview in 2016, Nazir said his application for a UK visa had been rejected twice.

It’s not the first time Nazir has had a go at reworking his cult his tune. Nazir is now selling “UK made vape liquid” and even released a music video promoting his new business several years ago.

Dressed as the fictional “Dr Shady, Chief Scientist” at the “One Pound Juice Laboratory”, Nazir can be seen in the lab making a batch of “very good quality” juice while enticing vapers to buy his wears.

“Come on vapers, come on vapers, one pound juice,” he sings.
