‘Completley devastated’ mum of Jay Slater calls for solutions after physique discovered

The mum of Jay Slater is said to be “completely devastated” after a body was found in the search for her missing son.

Heartbroken Debbie Duncan is now demanding answers after human remains were found in an “inaccessible area” of Masca, close to where the 19-year-old’s phone last pinged.

A family source told The Sun how Debbie was perplexed that the corpse was missed – even though it was located so close to his last known location.

They said it was the news she had been “dreading” and that she had a lot of questions.

The source went on to say: “Debbie is completely devastated. It’s the news they’ve all been dreading. She has a lot of questions which she hopes will be answered in the coming days.

“It hasn’t completely sunk in yet. The hardest thing for her is to hear he was found so close to the original search site. It’s hard to take. It means it’s entirely possible they have walked past his body whilst searching for him.

“It seems incredible so many people walked that area and yet he was so close. As we have seen with mountainous terrain and ravines, it does happen — no matter how hard that is to believe.”

At the time of writing no formal identification had taken place, although police said the body was found with Jay’s possessions and clothes.

The Civic Guard said they carried out an “incessant and discreet search” away from “curious onlookers” – despite announcing they’d called their search off after 12 days.

In the last few hours tributes have been pouring in on the GoFundMe page as people continue to offer donations.

And paying tribute to Jay, an account reportedly belonging to his pal Brad Hargraves wrote: “No words. Nothing will be the same without you. Rest easy brother. Love you always.”

Earlier today, Spanish police announced human remains have been found in an “inaccessible area” and are likely to be those of the 19-year-old from Lancashire.

Jay disappeared after attending a three-day rave with friends in Tenerife. During a last phone call, he told a pal he was lost, needed a drink and had 1% battery left on his phone.

A Guardia Civil spokesman said earlier today: “The mountain rescue and intervention group of the Civil Guard has located the lifeless body of a young man in the Masca area after 29 days of constant search.

“Given the complexity of the case, the discovery has been possible thanks to the incessant and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard during these 29 days, in which the natural space was preserved so that it would not be filled with curious onlookers.

“All indications indicate that it could be the young British man who has been missing since June 17 in the absence of full identification.

“The first investigations reveal that he could have suffered an accident fall in the inaccessible area where he was found.”
