For most people, doom scrolling through Facebook videos is a late-night, unfiltered joyless task.
However, over the last month or so it seems as if every other video has become an advert from a very unusual source. The Come Unto Christ missionary church has gone viral for its seemingly innocent adverts being commented on for all the wrong reasons.
There are two videos that pop up – one featuring two blonde women called Sister Pallett and Sister Hannant, and another clip of Sister Bates and Sister Dudley.

The latter has their speech transcribed over it with the words “we’re missionaries” in big bold writing appearing over their heads, while the other two are . . . blonde and apparently very attractive in the world of slight-pervy Facebook.
Other than being US-based despite aiming the adverts at the UK market, there really isn’t much freely-available information about the church, other than it is attached to the wider-known Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
And the comments on both of these videos are a sight to behold, and probably not what the church leaders were expecting. One one video, where the two blonde girls ask if we’re looking for “peace and rest in this busy world?,” on reply states: “We all love a bit of missionary.”
And another states: “I’ll come and pray with you two and I don’t even believe in god – what’s the name of your church?” A third added: “I’d love to commit sins with them two in church.”
Another, making an interesting observation, added: “I was approached by two young girls just like these in my local park asking about my faith so I’m assuming this is how the churches are rolling now to get the faith back by luring people in with young pretty females . . . seems a bit odd to me.” Another video called “Meet the Missionaries” has also gone down as well as you’d expect
The 50-second clip is a series of clips from three “Missionaries” talking about their jobs. One comment said: “Has anyone come into Jesus yet? also my name is brother daddy.” And a second wrote: “At what point do we get assigned planets to populate?”
The rest of the comments can be summed up by one bloke slamming them, stating: “I can sense many people on this page need a touch from you Mighty God and pray you shine your light upon us all amen.”
Although not what the church bosses probably wanted, they do say that all publicity is good publicity . . . right?
