New Jay Slater search begins as professional claims ‘canines will discover him alive or lifeless’

A new search for missing British teenager Jay Slater is underway, with experts claiming specialist sniffer dogs will find him . . . dead or alive.

The 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, vanished nearly a month ago after attending a rave with two British men and spending the night at an Airbnb in the remote and “treacherous” Masca village.

He was last seen on Monday, June 17, attempting to return on foot to the tourist hotspot of Los Christianos where he was staying with friends Lucy and Brad after missing his bus – a journey that would have taken him 11 hours.

However, as the search for Jay goes past one month, a new organisation has become involved and pledged to find him one way or another.

Marieke Krans, from search specialists Signi Zoekhonden, said: “We are very committed to come and we are confident in the dogs and in ourselves. Our dogs are trained to find people, both alive or dead, and have more skills. They can search underwater, and up mountains, whatever it may be.

“They are really creative and that means there is more we can do. We will go where the dogs lead us”

It is thought that the volunteer group will spend around five and a half days searching for Jay.

News of a new search comes just 24 hours after Jay’s mum Debbie issued a new plea to help find him, and clarified again what the near-£50k from the GoFundMe will be spent on.

The 55-year-old said yesterday: “As you all know the Guardia Civil gave up the land search after 12 days. We have been actively working with search and rescue teams and we can now confirm that we have a team of experts flying in over the weekend from the Netherlands, who will carry on the search with their specialist dogs.

“We are only able to fund this with the generosity of all those who donated. The team are the Signi Zoekhondon and this has taken lots of planning to get them over so thank you so much for your kindness.

“As we approach four weeks of our beautiful Jay’s disappearance, we cannot put into words the heartache we are suffering as a family. Jay is a typical young man who loves life with a bright future ahead of him.

“This month will mark the end of his three year apprenticeship with the world at his feet. He is loved by everyone and has a close bond with his family and many many friends.”

The search continues.
