Graham Potter is the favourite to become the next England boss if Gareth Southgate decides to stand down.
Southgate will hold talks with the FA, his family and close friends in the next week, before making a decision on his future. He has been left devastated after seeing England lose to Spain in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin.
The Three Lions have become the first nation to lose back-to-back Euros finals. Southgate’s contract runs until December, but it is widely expected he will call time on his eight year reign as England boss.

Despite having a talented squad at his disposal, Southgate believes it could be the right time for change. And with England facing Nations League games in September, he knows his replacement will need as much time as possible to prepare for his first games in charge.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham knows he will be powerless to stop Southgate from resigning. But he is desperate to appoint another home grown manager – with Potter top of his wanted list ahead of Eddie Howe and England U21 boss Lee Carsley.

Bullingham is keen to hand the job to someone who can continue the culture Southgate has developed within the Three Lions.
Which would appear to rule out a bold move for Jurgen Klopp, who is available following his exit from Liverpool at the end of last season.
But Bullingham knows whoever he appoints will face an unenviable task when it comes to following in Southgate’s footsteps. He is the second most successful England boss of all time, having led them to three semi finals and two finals since 2016.
Potter has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023, after just seven months in charge. But despite him having no international experience when it comes to management, he is highly regarded with senior circles at the FA.
Southgate, meanwhile, is being tipped to receive a knighthood in the next honours list – having led England to their first ever major final on foreign soil.
