The Scots have wasted no time in rubbing salt in the wounds after England‘s devastating 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final last night.

Scottish newspapers and politicians joined the Tartan Army in rejoicing after the Three Lions failed to end 58 years of hurt in Berlin.

England, who have not won a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup, were hoping to go one step further than Euro 2020 when Gareth Southgate‘s men also lost in the final against Italy.

But Three Lions fans were plunged into despair after goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal either side of a Cole Palmer stunner saw Spain crowned as European champions.

Crestfallen England fans were left in disbelief after they packed into bars and pubs for the final in vain. But gleeful Scots, whose own Euros journey came to an end three weeks earlier, were in the mood to celebrate.

Three Lions fans waking up with sore heads and broken hearts will want to avoid reading the Scottish papers this morning.

The Scottish Sun’s back page led on golfer Bob MacIntyre winning the Scottish Open, quipping: ‘It’s coming home… but not for England’. They added: ‘It all ends in Kane pain again.’

England suffered heartbreak once again as they lost 2-1 to Spain in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final

The Scottish Sun wasted no time in mocking the Three Lions. Referencing golfer Bob MacIntyre’s Scottish Open win, they said: ‘It’s coming home… but not for England.’

The newspaper’s front page also mocked England’s result, with the headline: ‘Never mind, it’s Olé a game.’

Elsewhere, the Daily Star of Scotland said: ‘TWO-WON! Spain end England’s Euro dream’

The Scottish Guardian featured an article with the headline: ‘The wait goes on. England get a dose of painful reality.’

Elsewhere, the Scottish Guardian featured an article with the headline: ‘The wait goes on. England get a dose of painful reality.’

And the Daily Star of Scotland said: ‘Two-won! Spain end England’s Euro dream.’

It comes after a pro-independence sparked outrage after its frontpage called for Spain to get ‘revenge’ on England in the lead-up to the Euros final.

The National, which has ‘the newspaper that supports an independent Scotland’ on its masthead, published a frontpage with Spanish footballer Rodri kicking an overweight England fan who was photoshopped to be the shape of a football.

With the headline ‘Time for Revenge!’ in bold red ink, the paper stated: ‘Every summer, they fill up your beaches. They drink all your beer. They make a mess of your plazas. They eat dried breakfasts all day instead of your wonderful food. They retire in your towns, and sponge off your public services.’

They added: ‘Our message to Spain: Save us from an England win (or we’ll never heard the end of it!’

Scotland’s official partner Tennent’s unveiled a mocking billboard after England’s final defeat

It wasn’t just the newspapers getting involved in poking fun at devastated England fans today.

The SNP’s Westminster leader Stephen Flynn gleefully celebrated England’s heartbreaking defeat.

Mr Flynn boasted that Scotland had been the only team to beat Spain during qualifying for the tournament as he posted a photo of himself in a kilt mocking weeping fans.

The post showing Mr Flynn alongside Spanish football shirts described midfielder Rodri as ‘bro’, adding: ‘All is forgiven.’

The Scottish independence campaigner has previously said he had supported seven different teams in the competition – in a reference to England’s opponents.

The message drew an angry response on X, with users pointing out that Scotland crashed out at the group stages after failing to win a match and being thrashed by Germany.

England fans will be waking up wondering what could have been after they fell one step short of Euros glory.

Southgate’s men went behind just seconds into the second-half but Palmer sent the nation into a frenzy when he equalised moments after coming on as a substitute.

But with the game looking like it was heading to extra-time again, Oyarzabal struck in the 86th minute to give Spain a 2-1 victory.

Both Scottish and Irish supporters needed no second invitation to pile in on England’s misery, ruthlessly mocking the Three Lions and their fans after the game.

‘Let’s all laugh at England,’ one fan said, accompanying their post with several laughing emojis and a picture of Spanish defender Dani Carvajal making a mocking gesture during the final.

Carvajal mimicked crying after Bukayo Saka was fouled in the 23rd minute of the match, creating an image for several anti-England fans to use after the final.

Several fans used Dani Carvajal’s crying gesture to mock the English following Spain’s triumph

Tennent’s Lager, the official partner of the Scotland national team, unveiled a billboard early on Monday morning which read: ‘Don’t worry England, we bottle it too.’

Meanwhile in Ireland, a fan uploaded a video captioned ‘Dublin is Spanish’ showing Irish supporters dancing to Puerto Rican artist Daddy Yankee’s 2004 hit song Gasolina in a nightclub.

Scotland finished their Euro 2024 campaign bottom of Group A, with the joint-lowest points tally and worst goal difference in the tournament.

They were, however, the only team to beat champions Spain across the Euro 2024 qualifiers and finals matches, winning 2-0 back in March 2023.
