Jay Slater’s greatest buddy Lucy Mae Law shares closing phrases to ‘most smiley individual’

The last person to speak to Jay Slater before he disappeared in Tenerife has paid tribute to him a day after a body was found.

Slater went missing on June 17 after travelling from a rave to the remote Airbnb in the mountains of Tenerife with two men. Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire had posted a Snapchat video of himself at the Casa Abuela Tina, near the village of Masca, shortly before making his last phone call to pal Lucy Mae Law before he disappeared.

The search for the him was officially called off two weeks later and his last known location was half a mile north of Masca village, which is where Guardia Civil confirmed a body was yesterday.

And now Lucy has paid tribute to him on Instagram with an emotional homage to the lad she calls “one of a kind”. Heartbroken, she posted: “Honestly lost for words.”

“Always the happiest and most smiley person in the room, you was one of a kind Jay and you’ll be missed more than you know. I’m sure you’ll ‘have your dancing shoes polished and ready’ waiting for us all. We all love you buddy. Fly high.”

As it stands, no formal identification had taken place, although police said the body was found with Jay’s possessions and clothes and an autopsy is scheduled for today.

The Civic Guard said they carried out an “incessant and discreet search” away from “curious onlookers,” despite announcing they’d called their search off after 12 days.

A Guardia Civil spokesman said yesterday, after announcing a body had been found in the area where he was said to have last been using his phone: “The mountain rescue and intervention group of the Civil Guard has located the lifeless body of a young man in the Masca area after 29 days of constant search.
