A Gen Z employee has gone viral after creating a hilarious video for his out of office message.
Joshua Kessel, who works for Sydney-based start-up Butter Insurance, clearly decided that a simple email wouldn’t cut the mustard.
Office workers around the world look forward to the satisfaction of switching on OOO before a well deserved vacation – but as Josh works in marketing, he decided to take things one step further.
In a viral video that now has more than eight million views on TikTok and Instagram, Josh put his creative skills to use.
The Butter Insurance Instagram account said: ‘Our Gen Z marketing guy set this as his out of office.’
They added: ‘I wish this was a joke but he’s not even here to make this a video.’

In a viral video that now has more than eight million views on TikTok and Instagram, Josh put his creative skills to use
In a very simple email giving out no information, Josh wrote: ‘Hi there, please refer to attached video.’
The clip very quickly addressed the point, beginning with a picture of a plane and the caption: ‘I’m out of office.’
Speaking to the camera, Josh said: ‘If you are watching this, I’m probably on a plane to Europe right now,’ before an edited 3D plane whooshed past.
He continued: ‘Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions. Number one – when will I be back?’
After a heavy pause, Josh moved very swiftly moved onto the second question.
He said: ‘Two, if you are a recruiter, my personal email is…’
His employer then bleeped out his email address, writing: ‘Are you kidding’.
Josh said: ‘Three, for all urgent enquiries, send me an email and I’ll look at it when I get back.’
‘We’ll be right back,’ he wrote to conclude the video.
Those on social media quickly made comparisons between him and Michael Scott from The Office or Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother would do
Most agreed that the video was hilarious, but some thought it was in more of a millennial style.

‘Gen Z are not bothered to inform at first place. They just disappear lol’;
‘Baby girl this is millennial trying to be gen z ….we would never….! ( But it’s still super cool )!!!’
‘The “we’ll be right back” at the end had me dying lol’;
‘He’s got TOO much time on his hands to do that.’
Others hoped to recreate the video themselves but were worried it would get them in trouble at work: ‘I love it! Now I wonder will this get me fired’;
‘But how do I get the bravery… I love this.’
One person was so impressed by Josh’s skills that they even wrote: ‘Ok well my FAQ is, is he single and it wasn’t answered so…’
