Man in his 30s dies after being hit by a automotive in an alleyway

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in an alleyway on Friday night.

The tragedy happened in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, at around 11.20pm.

Lancashire Police said they were called to the scene off Parramatta Street and found an Audi A5 ‘had been in collision with a man who was in the alleyway’.

The man, who is in his 30s and who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

On social media, a flood of tributes have been left to the young man, who has been described by those who knew him as ‘a true gentleman.’

One wrote on Facebook: ‘Gutted, a true gentleman of his generation, a happy lovely soul, will be very missed. A massively good guy taken way too soon. Sending love and condolences to the family. Devastating, rest in peace.’

A second said: ‘Heartbreaking. Rest in peace. One of the nicest lads you could meet. My thoughts are with all his loved ones.’

Another wrote: ‘A parent’s worst nightmare. To go out and not come home is heartbreaking. Sending love to the family at a very sad time.’ 

No arrests have been made, Lancs Live reports.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and asking for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to get in contact.

Sgt Dan Gunn of the Lancashire Police Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘First and foremost my thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who died at this very sad and distressing time.

‘As part of our investigation, we are appealing for witnesses to the collision and we want anyone who walked past this alleyway off Parramatta Street around the time it happened, to get in contact. 

‘Also, if anyone has dashcam or CCTV footage from the area, we ask you to contact police.’
