New Met Office climate predictions say September has ‘short-lived sizzling spells’

New long term forecasts from the Met Office claim that September will start with hot spells – but not for very long.

From heatwaves to downpours, Britain has been battling it all this summer. And while temperatures flare on the streets, it seems as if temperatures around the country will also increase for a short while.

In the newly-released long-term weather forecast from the Met Office – dated from Monday, August 19 to Monday, September 2 – it seems as though the heatwave will carry on for a bit longer.

The Met Office states: “A continuation of the overall weather pattern anticipated to dominate through the first week or so of August is the more likely scenario at the start of this period. This means a broadly changeable westerly flow with northern areas perhaps rather more unsettled overall and southern areas seeing more in the way of drier interludes.

“There are tentative signals that with time, weather patterns may become rather more slow-moving, but as yet it is not clear whether this translates into more generally unsettled or settled conditions. Again, southern and eastern areas are more likely to experience above average temperatures, with an increased chance, compared to normal, of short-lived hot spells.”

Prior to that coming, Weather guru James Madden, from Exacta Weather – rivals of the Met Office – believes we might be soaking up another heatwave across the UK as soon as the next weekend.

He predicts: “In and around August 10-15 will bring another additional and major heat surge across our shores and this could bring the hottest temperatures of the summer to date with overall values rising into the low to mid-30s at the very least once again.

“The more extreme possibility or peak of this expected heat surge could even see temperatures reaching into the mid to high 30s in the hottest parts of the country during this developing period.”

It does appear that various weather services are very much undecided about the fate of the United Kingdom when it comes to the weather for the next three to four weeks – so don’t put the barbecue away just yet.

But maybe get your big coat out a little earlier than normal, who knows.
